simplicity belies the difficulty in recreating a classic

This dress is classic couture. At first glance it looks effortless and simple, yet trying to recreate the dress pattern using flat pattern making was more difficult than expected. The right amount of fullness and drape, the length of the underskirt that narrows at the knee. The lace work is purposefully sculptured and scalloped along the cleavage line and over the shoulder, in the working sample the lace has not been cut away yet. Below is what the runway dress looks like. After a couple of attempts on paper and cotton, this is the toile made up.
